He had been working at Van den Bosch Transporten for six months, when he was asked if he would like to change his workplace in Erp for an office in Dubai. Bart van de Vorst and his girlfriend Vera needed to think about it exactly one day: then they decided to expand their horizon and take the challenge.
“As an General Manager in Dubai, I coordinate the deep sea activities for Van den Bosch. I am responsible for managing the Dubai team: all together we make sure our tanks are deployed as strategically as possible. Procurement, pricing, tenders, looking for new destinations – my work is very diverse.”
“Our focus is on Africa, a continent with an enormous growth potential. At the same time it is still a niche market, not all tank operators dare to enter that market. Since 2015, the African continent is one of our primary focus markets. And successfully: from only a couple of customers, we quickly grew to approximately fifty customers.”
“I had continued to live with my parents when I was a student, so the move to Dubai was a very big step for me, certainly because at that point in time I had not even worked at Van den Bosch for six months. But, my girlfriend and I quickly agreed: this is a great challenge; a unique opportunity to live at the other side of the world and build a career there. We love it here, the choice definitely was the right one.”
“When I applied at Van den Bosch, I already noticed the fit between the company and me. Other application procedures had taken weeks. At Van den Bosch everything was arranged in 48 hours. I made the decision on my gut feeling. Van den Bosch is a typical family business: straightforward, resolute and enterprising. And that is also who I am: you will only move forward, if you are willing to take steps.”
“I am back in the Netherlands once a month for the Teamleaders To the Next Level management development program. With a coach we work on all kinds of management skills, such as leadership and effective communication: everything that is required to do my job even better and in a more professional way. Extremely useful, because you mainly have theoretical knowledge after you finished your education. This development program enables me to learn new skills in practice and to make next steps in my career.”
